The newest player into the Telecom Fijiana squad, Sereana Nagatalevu, is thrilled and looking forward to the 2014 Bayley’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens which starts today at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.

The 21-year-old from Rakiraki, Yale, in Kadavu who joined the squad two weeks ago said it felt good being part of a team.

“It feels really good being here and training with the Fijiana team, I never thought I’d actually be here,” Nagatalevu said.

“It was thanks to Facebook that I got picked to join the team. I saw an update on Facebook regarding open trials in the West.

“I think I was the only one who attended those trials and after that the manager Selita Koroi approached me and asked me to join the team and I did.”

Nagatalevu comes from a sporting background but she said that did not prepare for what she faced training with the Telecom Fijiana team.

“Training with the Fijiana team is tough and really challenging,” she said.

“I grew up swimming and got into touch rugby but I’ve only rugby on the streets, never in a proper team and now that I am here, I have learnt the proper techniques which I didn’t know before,” she said.

“It is better training with a club because you get more knowledge of the game.”

Prior to the 2014 Bayley’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens starts, the excitement is growing for Nagatalevu.

“I am really excited about the Coral Coast Sevens and nervous too because it is my first time playing in such a major tournament.

“But in saying that, rugby and especially sevens rugby is one sport I would like to take up as a career.” she said.

Meanwhile, Telecom Fijiana coach Iliesa Tanivula said Nagatalevu’s interest and eagerness to play is refreshing.

“Sereana (Nagatalevu) comes from a athleticism background and she is really keen to play and get involved and this a good start,” Tanivula said.

“But she is still a work in progress and hopefully everything goes well with her.”

The 2014 Bayley’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens will start today at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.
