In 2016, when the new five-star resort in Momi Bay opens its doors, it will be operated by one of the world’s most prestigious accommodation groups – Marriott.

The opening of the Marriott Resort in Momi Bay will give us access to the 45 million members of the Marriott Rewards Programme as well.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said: “We’re extremely fortunate to have Marriott join our other partners in the tourism industry – our biggest revenue earner and the industry on which the fortunes of so many Fijians depend.

“In line with its new standards, the FNPF carried out a competitive bidding process in which Marriott secured the right to manage Momi Bay through its flagship brand, ‘Marriott Hotels and Resorts’.”

Marriott has traded for more than 85 years and its presence is especially strong in some important markets for Fiji, including China and the United States.

Marriott thoughts

Marriott Hotels International Inc vice president Hotel development Asia Pacific, James Doolan, said they are really extraordinarily excited to be part of this project in Fiji.

“In our opinion, Fiji is one of the greatest desirable destinations for international resorts,” he said.

“We were long wanting to be involved in Fiji so we want to be part of the spectacular Fiji.

“FNPF, for the past four and half years, has gone through a very detailed process looking for the best brand and we are very excited to bring the Marriott brand into Fiji.

“Fiji in our opinion is famous for the warmth of its people. Marriot is one company that talks more on services.

“We look at the Fijian smile which will be one of the Marriott experiences from now and we will work with the Fijians to bring this international experience here.”
