Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday commissioned a water project for Navala Village in Ba.

This event brought to an end the years of drinking unsafe water from the nearby Ba River which runs at the foot of the village.

Mr Bainimarama, in commissioning the project, said there was a need for all Fijians to adapt to change in order for their families, communities and the nation to prosper. This was Mr Bainimarama’s first visit to the village following his election win in September.

“Water is one of the main priorities of my Government and I am personally involved to see that all households in Fiji have clean and safe drinking water running through their taps,” he said.

“This is the change that we want to see in the new Fiji; a Fiji where everybody is treated equally despite where they live either in the villages some ten miles away or in Suva; we need to move forward, together as a nation.”

Mr Bainimarama further said people in rural areas could expect major improvements in Government services provided to them from past years.

“As you may have noticed, the recent increase in agricultural, forestry, and other Government offices in the most remote of places. This may be new to many of us but it should have been provided a long time ago. This is the change my Government is driving to enhance services to you (people),” Mr Bainimarama said.

“Yesterday, I re-launched the Momi Bay development project which had been idle for some years now. Once completed, it will provide jobs to more than 100 people and we all stand to benefit from that.”

The villagers thanked Government for its assistance in providing clean water – something which they had yearned for over the years.
