A mother’s challenge of balancing school work and motherhood paid off on Thursday as she graduated with a Diploma in Primary Education.

Ane Volavola, 31, a mother of two was among the 30 students who graduated from the Corpus Christi Teachers College in Suva.

“It has been a tough and challenging three years for me, especially because I had to balance house work and being a mother of two and coping with the many assignments we were given,” Mrs Volavola said.

“I just had to take a step at a time and today I’m bearing the fruit of the sacrifices I made in the last three years. It is also possible through the help and support of my husband who is also a teacher.”

Mrs Volavola encouraged other mothers aspiring to become teachers to never give up and work towards what they wanted.

“Anybody can be educated at any age. It is never too late to be educated,” she said.

Her husband Etuate Volavola said seeing his wife graduate was one of the best moments in his life.

This, he said, was because the family had faced financial difficulties throughout the three years, however, his wife managed to pay-off their investment in her education.

Meanwhile, Atonio Titoko, 22, was on cloud nine after graduating yesterday. He said his three years of sacrifice had finally paid off and he looked forward to becoming a teacher.

Mareta Nadiri, 22, said although she had missed getting her parents’ assistance in her assignments while at the college, she managed to achieve her dream of becoming a teacher.

“My mother who is my role model is also a teacher and they live in Vanua Levu. It was hard for me to concentrate on my school work because I miss home a lot. I’m happy now that I’ve achieved my goal,” she said.
