Two primary schools visited the Fiji Sun head office in Walu Bay, Suva, yesterday.

Coming all the way from Nadi were the students of Nadi Primary School and Maigania Muslim Primary School as part of their end of the year excursion (trip).

The trip is to help students plan their career paths early.

Nadi Primary School teacher Mereseini Toutou said the trip was to broaden the students’ knowledge on how newspapers were produced and how news was gathered by journalists.

She said the trip was also a chance for the students to visit some facilities that were not in Nadi.

Maigania Muslim Primary School headteacher Fatima Ali said the trip comprised of students from Year Five to Year Eight to get an insight of the operational works carried out and know how the Fiji Sun newspaper was produced and published daily.

“This is a scheduled educational trip for these students to also know how journalists work and it will enable and influence them to be literate and read newspapers,” Mrs Ali said.

Year Eight students Ravuama Tuirara and Kaushik Kavinesh said they had always dreamt of becoming journalists one day.

“I enjoyed the trip because I am now able to know and learn how things are being done at the Fiji Sun and the daily routine of journalists,” young Tuirara said.

He said the trip was informative that he was able to understand many aspects of journalism.
