A two- week course focusing on leadership, the media and ceremonial drills for military and police officers ended yesterday.

Seventy two officers graduated from the British Army-sponsored course, held at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks, Suva.

In recognition of their participation the officers were presented with a certificate each from the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.

Sergeant Tevita Koto, of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, said the training was an eye opener and it taught them the importance of the media.

“It has also broadened our knowledge on how to tackle the media from the military’s point of perspective. It has shown you can still send out messages and information about the military with the small resources you have,” Sergeant Koto said.

Corporal Pawan Kumar, of the Fiji Police Force, said there was a need for more of this sort of training to be carried out by the two institutions.

“We learned the power of the media in promoting the organisations that we work in and we should have more of these courses offered so it can teach the officers and let them understand the important roles the media plays in terms of promoting the work done by our organisation,” Corporal Kumar said.
