Top Netball districts, Suva, Lautoka, Nadi and Nasinu  are gearing up for the inaugural National Super League which will be held on December 12.

Newworld Suva Netball Association president Ruci Camaitoga confirmed she had received the directive from Netball Fiji to assemble a team.

“We were told by Netball Fiji to get a team together and then wait for further information so we’ve done that. It’s been quite hard to get the girls out because it is the off-season so our team is made up really of the girls who turned up for trials.

“We’ve selected 18 girls and our line-up includes Fiji Pearls Matila Waqanidrola and Nina Cirikisuva. This really is an opportunity for the younger girls to make an impression and get into the Fiji Pearls.

“This is all part of the build-up to the Oceania Tri-Series as well as building the capacity of the national team for the World Netball Championships by strengthening the districts.

“We’ve been told the competition will start on December 8.”

Fiji Gold Nasinu Netball Association president Unaisi Tawake echoed similar sentiments about her district’s preparations.

“Nasinu is fielding 18 players. The three national reps playing for Nasinu are Taraima Mitchell, Alesi Waqa and Luse Kotobalavu. There’s a training programme designed for our players and we also have a trainer who is taking the training for our girls.

“The Super league competition will commence on December 12, 2014 and ends on March 21, 2015. There will also be 6 venues for competition, and teams will be travelling to play at these different venues. For Nasinu, we will be updated on the next competition venue.

“Nasinu will just feature a team under its own banner.

“This is a chance for other registered players in Nasinu to display their potentials and their capabilities, and if their performance interests the national coach, then maybe they can be selected to play for Fiji.

“I’m looking forward to some upcoming players in Nasinu donning the national uniform.”

In addition, the western netball contingent which will be known as Western Heats comprising of Nadi and Lautoka players has already started preparations for the competition holding trials for players earlier in the week.
