The board of VB Holdings have strengthened the rights of small shareholders protecting minority interests who have invested in the company.

This is with the appointment of a prominent member of the legal fraternity, Devanesh Sharma, as an independent member of the board.

With this, the company is raising the bar for board renewal, disclosure and engagement and has actively been pursuing skills and experience that will enhance the company’s performance.

Chief executive, Bob Niranjan, said for Mr Sharma to accept a position on VB Holdings was a great endorsement for the company as he would not readily accept any position outside his law business.

He further stressed: “The company is entering an exciting period in its development, over the next few years.

“We therefore needed to bring on board a skill set that would enhance and complement the anticipated growth.”

With Mr Sharma’s legal experience both abroad and in Fiji, the board felt he would make a good fit contributing in a meaningful way, as well as represent the next generation of investors as a young member of the board.

Mr Sharma was the President of the Fiji Law Society from 2006-2007 and is a Notary Public of Fiji.

He completed his law Degree at Victoria University and was admitted to the bar in New Zealand in 1988.

Mr Sharma has been a Corporate Banker and a Legal Auditor in New Zealand.

He has also experience in mortgage portfolio management which will complement VB Holdings Limited’s business.

Mr Sharma’s term is for an initial two years and is subject to ratification at the next annual general meeting.
