Savenaca Vocea makes his debut for Belgium against Ukraine in the Fédération Internationale de Rugby Amateur (FIRA) Championship in Namur today.

The 20-year-old from Drekeniwai, Navatu, Cakaudrove believes wearing the Belgium jumper is best for him.

“I decided to don the Belgium jumper last year,” Vocea said.

Vocea is the son of former Fiji’s Ambassador in Brussels, the late Peceli Vocea and former national netball captain Vasiti Vugakoto. Having maternal links to Naigani, Batiki in Lomaiviti, Vocea  said the call to be part of Belgium Rugby Union came so early, but was an opportunity that he never wanted to miss.

He also played for Belgium in the 7s code.

The winger was scouted by national team staff in his first season in the senior grade in 2012 when he was a member of the Dendermonde RC.

He started his rugby career in Fiji at Suva Grammar School where he played for the  Under-14 and U15 grades. Before his family left for Belgium, Save played in the U17 British Schools of Brussels, Boitsfort U19 and senior team for Dendermonde Rugby Club.
