It was all smiles for Telecom Fijiana head coach Iliesa Tanivula despite losing in the semifinal stage of the 2014 Fiji Coral Coast 7s yesterday. And he has all the reason to be happy after he included 10 new players to his extended squad.

Tanivula has been trying to build his player-base and the annual event at Lawaqa Park allowed him to select new players to prepare for the IRB  Women Sevens World Series in Dubai next month.

Four NZ Raiders players Aeron Warbrooke, Britney Coates, Rejieli Uluinayau and former rep Siteri Tabua are in the squad.

Mystic Nights rep Di Lusi and Sereana Leweniqila are also in the mix with Nadroga players Losalini Ratu and Seruwaia Ralulu.

Soko Salaqiqi from the Striders Club, Ela Marama of Sea Hawks and Nadi’s Sereana Nagatalevu also make the cut. Their inclusion, Tanivula said, is expected to lift competition among the players.

“I’ve spoken to some girls from overseas who are eligible to play for Fiji as we need to broaden the player base as we got only eight clubs in Fiji,”Tanivula said.

“They got the intensity and will keep the current players on their feet and that is healthy for the team.”

On their performance at the tournament, Tanivula said the competition was intense.

“I think we played to the level that we trained to and it’s good to get there but again mistakes-two mistakes and two tries. We were our own worst enemy but to introduce five new girls to this level is good”.

Other squad members: Asinate Savu (Mystik Nites) Di Lusi, Sereana Leweniqila, Akosita Ravato (Striders), Talica Vodo, Timaima Ravisa, Soko Salaqiqi, Tavaita Ravouvou, Luisa Basei, Ana Maria Roqica (Marist), Lavenia Tinai, Roela Radiniyavuni,  Ela Marama (Sea Hawks), Esiteri Bulikiobo, Jossie Bavatu (Sydney Fiji Ranadi), Rusila Nagasau (Central Chiefs), Elina Ratauluva, Timaima Tamoi, Pricilla Siata, Seruwaia Raluvu (Nadro), Losalini Ratu, Sereana Nagatalevu (Nadi).
