Super League Concept Lauded

National netball rep Taraima Rara Mitchell anticipates great things for the inaugural National Super League due to debut on December 12.

The veteran goal-shooter believed the competition would revolutionize the way netball would be played in Fiji. And commending Fiji Pearls head coach Kate Carpenter for stepping up the competition format in Fiji.

“I think it’s a very good decision that Kate Carpenter made to introduce the Super League in Fiji,” Mitchell said.

‘And I’m very happy that she did because this means so much for the development and progress of the sport in Fiji.

“All the big teams in the world like the Silver Ferns have the Super League during their off-season and it’s proven to help them maintain fitness and shape during that time so it will definitely boost the national team in the same manner.

“I’m also really excited about the competition because now the national reps have been distributed equally amongst the districts. Prior to this, Suva and Nasinu dominated because the majority of the reps played for them.

“This time around though, we’ve got the Fiji Pearls spread out among the districts so it’s going to be very interesting to see how the competition goes. It’s definitely something to look forward to and will definitely be something to not miss.”

Mitchell also looks forward to giving back to her district through the competition.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to give back to the association and to my peers by sharing with them my knowledge and skills and helping the young girls in the district build their skills and get a chance to hopefully make the national team.

“This is also a really good way to keep fit during the off-season and especially with it being the festive season.”

Mitchell will feature for Nasinu along with fellow national reps Alesi Waqa and Luse Kotobalavu during the competition scheduled to run from December 12 to March 21.
