Double Win For Twins

Sri Lankan twins Apoorwa and Arjun Karunanayake went head to head to compete for the top subject prizes in the Fiji LDS Church College prizegiving in Tamavua, Suva  yesterday.

The Year 7 students were among those recognised for their academic achievements this year.
Apoorwa scooped the Social Science, Maths and Principal’s Honour Award while his brother Arjun won the Basic Science, Maths, TALL Production and High Honour Award.

Their father Don Karunanayake who works at the Fiji National University said the twin’s secret was how they utilised their spare time in the library.

“They deserve these awards because they have always worked hard at studying everyday. They are always reading books and making use of the library,” Mr Karunanayake said.

Arjun credited their success to their parents.

Apoorwa said while he was grateful for also achieving top awards, his only fear during exams had been the competition from his twin brother.
Meanwhile, Lion of the Lord Award winner and Year 12 student, Savaira Veikoso encouraged other students to work hard.

This, she said, was one of the contributing factors towards her winning the award.
The award is the college’s top prize given annually to students in recognition of their all-round superior performance and achievements.
