Fiji In Lead Role: Tonga PM

Fiji continues to play a lead role in the Pacific, says Tongan Prime Minister Lord Tu’ivakano.
The Tongan PM arrived at Nausori International Airport last night for the Suva summit with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mr Modi arrives tomorrow.

The Tongan PM was received by Foreign Affairs Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.
Lord Tu’ivakano said the Pacific also needed to engage with new economic partners and this could be achieved by opening talks with India.

He said that while the Pacific continued to have its traditional trading partners, the role that India played globally could not be overlooked.
The Tongan delegation will head to Nadi after the Suva summit to be ready for the Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit.

Lord Tu’ivakano said China had been a good friend of all Pacific island countries through various aid and assistance provided.
He said Fiji had provided them with an opportunity to show the Chinese President their gratitude.
