A high level United Arab Emirates military delegation arrived into the country last night.
Led by Chief of Staff of the UAE armed forces Lieutenant-General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi, 12 senior officials arrived in their officers and military aircraft at Nausori Internatinal Airport. The delegation is here to have a series of meetings with the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Brigadier-General Mosese Tikoitoga.

Fijian ambassador to UAE Robin Nair said such a visit recognised the importance that a country like UAE placed on Fiji.
The delegation will also be paying a courtesy visit to the Defence Minister Timoci Natuva.

It is expected that the two military heads will discuss issues pertinent to military co-operation between the two armed forces.
They are also to discuss the modalities of the establishment a Joint Committee which would meet regularly to discuss areas of cooperation and collaboration.

Mr Nair said the visit was significant given that they were from a very sophisticated and highly regarded armed force.

“This visit is not only a military focused visit but also a diplomatic visit.
“It recognises the high regard that the UAE has for the foreign policy of Fiji and Fiji’s contribution towards peace in the Middle East region,” Mr Nair said.

He said the visit marked the recognition and tribute to the high quality of Fijian soldiers who continued to serve in the region since 1978.
The delegation leaves later today.
