Goundar Reveals Package Deal

Goundar Shipping Services is now working on a package deal to buy two vessels.

This was confirmed by company director George Goundar who said he is leaving the country in December to finalise the deal.

“We’re offered a package deal,” he said.

“We are looking at getting both of them and we will get one to service the Natovi- Nabouwalu route while the second vessel is to service the Lau Group. We are half way through the process but we are taking things slowly.”

The Natovi-Nabouwalu route is currently serviced by Patterson Brothers using its two roll-on roll-off ferries

Mr Goundar said the vessels are going to arrive in Fiji next year as they wait for the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji release its new Act on January 1, next year.

“We are waiting for the Marine Act in order to determine the new laws before bringing in the new vessels,” he said.

“I have just received confirmation that the new Act will be released on January 1 but yes, we are still bringing in the new vessels as planned. It is definitely going to be next year.”

The MV Lomaiviti Princess I is 100 metres long and servicing the Suva, Savusavu, Taveuni and Kadavu route while the 60-metre long MV Lomaiviti Princess II is servicing the Suva, Koro and Lau route.
