Akbar Engineering Founder Passes Away

Mohammed Razak Akbar, founder of Akbar Engineering Limite, has died in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia after a short illness.
The man, affectionately known as Jack, was a businessman and engineering expert who was well respected in his circles.

He was on holiday at the time of his calling accompanied by his wife, Gulnoor and son, Aatish.
Son, Taabish said though a businessman, his father’s heart was always set on community service.

He spent his youth in the Scout movement, attaining the position of District Scout Commissioner for the Suva District,  Mr Akbar said of his father’s background.

“He was also founder of the 2nd Toorak Troop. While he was still in scouts, he joined the Suva Jaycees, where he also served as president.”
He was an active member of the Fiji Muslim League and the Fiji Muslim Sports Association.

He piloted the construction of the Suva Muslim College at Mead Road, Nabua, after it had been left idle as a partly constructed building for 10 years.

He became a Justice of Peace.

He was part of the last group of Fijians to be honoured by the Queen, with an MBE in 1987.

He is survived by his wife, four grandchildren, two daughters-in-law and eight grandchildren.

As per Islamic protocol, the janazah (funeral) is held wherever a person passes away, and also as soon as practicably possible.

Mr Akbar, passed away at 2pm (Malaysian time) earlier this week and was buried approximately 6 hours later.
