Vitogo Carnival 2014 To Fund Development

The Tikina of Vitogo with its council members and nominees of the Turaga na Tui Vitogo, together with the Lautoka Chamber of Commerce and industry will host a week-long fundraising carnival early next month.

Events director Adi Laisa Tora said the objective of the Vitogo development project carnival was to raise funds for the development of the Tikina.

“This is to engage in projects for its six villages, namely Vitogo, Naviyago, Matawalu, Vakabuli, Namoli and Saru,” she said

“The theme of the carnival is “Mo Kauwaitaka, ka Doka na Nomu Vanua” (Have a concern and respect for your land).

The projects, she added was earmarked to be carried out in 2015 and beyond.

“This includes – building a chiefly bure, to encompass meeting facilities for the Tui Vitogo and the tikina, introduction of eco-tourism in the six villages, which is partly assisted by the government. Also upgrading of the seafront in Namoli Village with major assistance from the Government.

“Introduce and assist with women’s’ projects example in bee-keeping, poultry, and bakery. Introduce and assist the youth wing, with their identified projects.”

The carnival will have daily exciting night programmes and engage selected renowned entertainment groups, to thrill and entertain the community.

The respective nights’ programmes will be organised by the six villages.

The carnival to be held from December 6-13, will officially be opened by the Minister of Forestry Osea Naiqamu at Churchill Park.
Meanwhile, the 2014 Vitogo carnival committee includes president – Salim Mohammed, treasurer – Joe Vuluma and secretary – Lusiana Sovasova.
