The construction of three classrooms for Year Seven and Year Eight students at Vuci Methodist Primary School, in Nausori cost $60,000.

This was possible through the free tuition grants which a number of schools had used for infrastructural developments,  says the acting Permanent Secretary for Education, Basundra Kumar.

Mrs Kumar officially opened the three classrooms yesterday.

“This school was established in 1920 with a roll of less than 100 students and four teachers but it now has increased to 750 students and 20 teachers,” Mrs Kumar said.

She said it was pleasing to note that the school had made progress and was now meeting the growing needs of the community in providing better education services and facilities.

“The new school block will ensure that the educational needs of the communities here is met,” she said.

The school’s headteacher, Joseva Madraitabua, said they were fortunate that the first building built in 1920 was still standing which is about 90 years old.

“We thank the line ministry for the assistance in approving our request to use the school grant to complete the three classrooms,” Mr Madraitabua said.

He said they wanted students to get the best education from the grant provided by the ministry.

“We will also continue to use the grant wisely and strictly by following the financial management policy of the education ministry.”

Mr Madraitabua said they wanted to become the best school in the Nausori Education District.
