The Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation are focusing on improving their human resource, research and data collection.

This was said by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar, at a meeting with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Suva on Wednesday.

“We provided a brief presentation on the ministry’s programmes in order to strengthen our partnership with UNDP,” Ms Akbar said.

She said they wanted partnerships with UN agencies, in particular UNDP, to access technical advice.

“We need assistance in areas of research, review and evaluation of programmes relative to women, children and poverty alleviation.”

United Nations resident coordinator and UNDP resident representative, Osnat Lubrani, said they were looking forward to provide the much needed assistance.

“We are willing to provide assistance especially in areas of gender equality and poverty alleviation,” Ms Lubrani said.

She said they would be pleased to assist the ministry by sharing information and ideas based on their experiences.

“This portfolio is important to UNDP, particularly promoting gender equality and addressing poverty which is our priority areas.”
