Government’s gesture in awarding 50 female former civil servants compensation cheques last Friday was a manifestation that the elderly were still remembered in society.

Former school teacher, Lice Osbourne, said this after Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama presented her with a cheque.

The cheques were part of the Government’s promise in the 2014 Budget which said it would compensate women civil servants who  in colonial times lost all their retirement benefits accumulated during the years they were unmarried.

“I thank the Government for acknowledging the efforts that we put into our work and the years that we served this country and the people,” Ms Osbourne said.
