The staff of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital appreciate the continuing assistance provided to its Oncology Ward by the staff of the Holiday Inn Suva hotel.

For a number of years now the hotel has been helping in the upkeep of the ward.

Yesterday the hotel’s engineering team carried out some maintenance work at the ward and provided lunch for the two patients admitted there.

The supervisor of the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, which the ward comes under,   Acting Sister Salanieta Lutumaitoga, said the assistance was always very much appreciated.

“Oncology is where children with cancer are being admitted. These children are very special and knowing that their days are numbered we try and provide the best care for them each day.

“The Holiday Inn staff – they help us do that by maintaining the ward and giving treats to the patients to cheer them up during the difficult situation they’re in,” Acting Sister Lutumailagi said.

“We feel happy about the assistance”.

The hotel’s general manager, Preston Miskelly said the initiative was part of their social responsibility.

“We do that through donations from staff, our guests and also the contribution from the hotel itself. Our engineering team – we send out to fix things. We enjoy contributing to such a significant cause,” Mr Miskelly said.
