Suva One are the champions of the 2014 Central Division Chow Games after winning the overall title at the end of the second day at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.

Suva One managed to fend off stiff competition from rivals Suva Two, Nasinu and Tailevu South clinching 28 gold medals, 24 silver medals and 18 bronze medals. Suva Two bagged 25 gold, 20 silver and 16 bronze while Tailevu had 11 gold, 12 silver and 20 bronze.

Suva One dominated the boys division with 15 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze while Suva Two bagged 12 gold, eight silver and five bronze with Tailevu South rounding out the top three with six gold, four silver and seven bronze.

Suva Two proved too strong in the girls division clinching the title with 13 gold, 12 silver and 11 bronze while Suva One also bagged 13 gold but fell short with 11 silver and five bronze. Nasinu surpassed Tailevu South to place third with six gold, four silver and six bronze medals.

Suva One manager Sikeli Qio attributed the win to divine intervention and dedicated the title to the supporters of the district.

“The athletes of Suva One would like to dedicate this win to the Lord Jesus for his guidance and blessing.

“We also dedicate the win to the parents for all their support throughout the season, the coaches and to the athletes themselves.

“This year was really good and it was great that we were able to compete with Suva Two and all the other districts providing great competition.

“A lot of potential athletes have been identified especially those coming from outside Suva so it’s most encouraging to see.”

Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association president Patrick Bower gave the thumbs up to the successful wrap up of the two-day meet.

“Overall, the two days competition went fairly well.
