New Zealand-based Warrior Brittany Coates has proved herself worthy of the Telecom Fijiana jumper after being named in the squad for the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in Dubai  next month.

Coach Iliesa Tanivula said Coates had impressed him and earned her spot.

“It was just her experiences in rugby tournaments and also the knowledge and skills she brings coming from Auckland Rugby,” Tanivula said.

“With such a strong, impressive background, she comes with the full package. Just looking at her core skills, there’s so much that she has to offer with such an effective set of core skills.

“On the whole, a couple of the girls worked really hard during the past few weeks to get their spots and keep the competition in the team. They’ve displayed such an intensity in training that helped make it easier to select them.”

Meanwhile, Tanivula assured players that did not make the cut that the journey was far from over with so much ahead and the door for election was still wide open.

“In the meantime, the girls that did not make the selection must understand and know that it is not the end of the world. There is a long road ahead of us with five tournaments to go on the series.

“The door for selection is still wide open and just because they didn’t make the cut to Dubai doesn’t mean they should stop. We’re always looking for players who can come in and bring change for the better to Fijiana.

“We’re always looking for girls who have the ability, skills and knowledge to lift and progress the level of the team, so please do not give up and work hard.”

“It was the first time for the Nadera Methodist Church congregation to host a Fiji national rugby team,” Vodafone Fiji 7s manager Paula Biu said.

“There were few former national reps and rugby administrators who are from Nadera like Etuate Waqa, Ilivasi Tabua, Fero Lasagaveibau and Malakai Finau.
