A new Lautoka City Area Residents and Ratepayers Association have been formed following a meeting by Lautoka residents and ratepayers last Saturday.

Its president Maude Elbourne said the  association was proposed by the residents and ratepayers who attended the meeting.

“The majority of those who attended the meeting expressed the need to have a forum where local issues and concerns can be discussed and presented to the Lautoka City Council,” Ms Elbourne said.

“These issues include consultation in development processes within the city.

“This is to develop and maintain an appropriate long- term structure plan to encourage development and employment.

“Other issues include the upgrading of roads, footpaths and drains, encouraging safer inter-linkage between parts of the city for heavy goods vehicles, cane lorries and locomotives and to promote and maintain the natural environment, cleanliness, charm and character of the city area.

“The association will also lobby with Government and other authorities to ensure the city receives a fair share of resources,” she said.
