In a setting of 47 students, a six-year-old was named the outstanding pupil during the Labasa Sangam Kindergarten graduation yesterday.

Eveleen Elisha Prasad was overjoyed to be named as the top student. “I am very happy and proud and when I grow up I would like to become a lawyer,” she said.

Her mother, Renuka Rao stood proud among the mothers yesterday. “I am really proud of her. I don’t regret sending her to this school even though we live far from the school,” Mrs Rao said.

“We live in Siberia. This school has taught her father and members of his family so we want to keep the  tradition alive.”

The chief guest was retired assistant headteacher of Labasa Sangam Primary School, Kaushlya Naickar. “The school places a great value on community, learning and fun.

“Life is not just about learning to read and write, this is a lifelong journey which will help all of us. We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.”

The students, during the ceremony, sang the Fiji National Anthem and prayed in three languages – English, iTaukei and Hindi.
