Jogita and Sunil Kalyan were smiling double yesterday.

Their twin daughters were awarded the highest subject prizes for Year 13 during the Jai Narayan College prizegiving in Suva yesterday.

Hefal Kalyan was awarded the second prize and best English and Chemistry student while Heeral won the first prize and the best Biology and Physics student.

Mr Kalyan said the 18-year-old twins had always been consistent in their school work.

“We are very happy and proud of their achievement. We have always been encouraging them to work and study hard and we never stopped them from doing other things,” the Laucala Bay Pharmacy proprietor said.

“They are very good, disciplined and I’m proud of my best girls.”

Heeral said, “It was tough and very competitive, but through the sacrifices we made and our parents’ support, we were able to achieve these awards”.

“We studied together every time, shared ideas and taught each other things if one of us doesn’t know anything about a subject.”

They hope to pursue a career in medicine.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Mereseini Vuniwaqa was the chief guest during the prizegiving.
