When the Ben Ryan-coached Vodafone 7s team plays in the Dubai 7s tournament, veteran winger Nasoni Roko will be the oldest player in the team.

Roko who will turn 34 on Saturday said to him age is just a number.

“I thank the Lord for being with me, I am excited to be with the team once again,” he said.

Despite his three-year absence from national duty his passion for the sport has made him overcome many challenges in life.

“I have been away for three years and made a lot of sacrifices and hard work to win back my spot in the national squad.”

Roko said his motivational factor was when he looked at young players and it gave him an urge to challenge them.

“I compare myself to them and I take the challenge but I know that one day I will have to hang my boots. It is good to see that there are many young players who are putting their hands up to play for our country in the series.”

With the world rugby unions looking forward to the Rio Olympics in 2016, the Naitasiri native said we should take things one at a time.

“Everybody is looking forward to the gold medal win at the Rio Olympics in 2016 but we are still here and we won’t worry too much about that as we’ve to win the series first.”

Roko has called on rugby sevens fans to get behind the team as they defend their title.
