It was a proud moment for Deaconess Verenaisi Toga yesterday when she graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity.

She was among the 10 students who graduated under the programme from the Methodist Church Theological College in Nausori yesterday.

“I just want to thank God and the College for allowing me to be the first deaconess to come and study in the college under the programme, I feel happy and very honoured,” the mother of two said.

She said she had learned many things that had deepened her understanding about God and his messages in the Bible.

“This will really help me a lot in my work in spreading the Gospel to those who want and need to hear it,” Deaconess Toga said.

She has advised women to not look down upon themselves and that God was also calling on women to join this ministry.

Meanwhile, Susana Cokanauto who also graduated under the programme said it felt great to be a woman graduating from the college.

“I believe that with God nothing is impossible. Anyone can join this ministry and relay the message of God from the pulpit regardless if you’re a man or a woman,” Ms Cokanauto said.

“Despite being outnumbered by my male colleagues it gave me the strength to persevere in my studies and my work in the ministry.”
