Vodafone Fiji Sevens forward Semi Kunatani has finally broken his silence of how he had lost the ball on the try line during the Gold Coast 7s.

Speaking to SUNsports at Nadi International Airport yesterday the tough forward said he was so ashamed of what happened.

“It was shameful and I went to the dressing room with lots of questions going in my mind,” he said.

“I thought hard. I wondered whether something was wrong with me or what had happened to me then.”

Kunatani was on the Scottish tryline after a 50-metre break and before   touching down he copped a tackle from Scotland’s Lee Jones and lost the ball forward.

“The last time I saw Jones was when I fended off his tackle. I did not know that he was behind me and I was really caught by surprise.”

Kunatani said he had learned a valuable lesson from the incident.

“Coach Ben Ryan advised me to stop goofing around the try line. He stressed the importance of staying focused from the start to the end of the match. The pace of the game has been very fast these days compared to previous years.”

Kunatani said going in as the defending Dubai champions would be tough.

“All teams in the second leg will change their style of play, improve on their game plan but we won’t be giving in easily,” the Naqalimare native from Navosa said.
