Iliesa Draunidalo has no regrets abandoning his career as a teacher to join the Davuilevu Theological College in 2012.

The 39-year-old who graduated with a Diploma in Theology among 10 other students from the college was named the dux yesterday.

“My parents informed me they had made a promise to God if they had a son, that son would dedicate his life to serving God,” Mr Draunidalo said.

“So when I graduated from the University of the South Pacific in 2004, I joined the Ministry of Education and went into teaching for nine years.

“I always thought of that and had a longing to fulfil this duty.”

The Naroi native from Moala in Lau said it was a challenge though when he finally made the decision.

“The first challenge was convincing myself that I wanted to do it and face my wife Salote and two children Wainise and Solomone and inform them about giving up my work to join the college. They came around and was very supportive,” Mr Draunidalo said.

“I was always very withdrawn and lived a very private life but upon joining the college and this ministry have given me an open mind about my views towards life.

“To become ecumenical and associate with other people, other religions and faiths.”
