Vodafone Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan wanted to get the players acclimatised as soon as possible.

Ryan said adjusting to local time, hydrating well and having the right diet were all essential to getting the boys settled down as soon as possible.

“There are number of things to keep in mind,”Ryan said.

“We’ve to get them hydrated and keep them awake on the first day to keep with local time. We have to make sure that they eat the right things so that they sleep well later but also recover from the flight.

“They also have a pool session to get heart rate up and get rid of some stiffness from flight and have a spin bike session to raise core temperature quicker than just doing light training as they need to get their body clock on Dubai time as soon as possible.”

Ryan was confident in his team’s ability to adjust to the United Arab Emirates in time for the tournament.

“I’ve done this a lot of times and spent a lot of research time with the England team making sure we got over jet lag, etc, as fast as possible,”Ryan said.

“You have to be strict about bed times, nutrition, checking hydration, etc. It’s all for the benefit of the team so they buy into it 100 per cent.” Ryan said they had a similar programme this year for their clinics with their host club Abu Dhabi Harlequins children.

“It’s just some fun skill practices the boys do with me that they can do with the Harlequins team. We did it last year and it was really good. Coaching kids is all about keeping it simple, fun and interesting.”

The Vodafone Fiji 7s side touched down in the Middle Eastern country yesterday and will be hosted by the Abu Dhabi Harlequins Rugby Club ahead of the 2014 Dubai 7s on December 5-6.
