The Fiji Pearls are set to embark on a Trans-Tasman tour after the 2015 Oceania Tri-Series wraps up in January

Fiji Pearls coach Kate Carpenter confirmed the tour was all part of exposing the players to a higher level of professional competition.

“We’ve a tour planned for the end of February with two matches against ANZ Championships winner Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic on February 19 in Taupo and Feb ruary 21 in Tokoroa,”Carpenter said.

“And in between we’ll be playing a game with the  Northern Mystics development side.

“We’re also planning to go on tour to the Melbourne Vixens in Australia after that so it’s a very busy time and of course huge exposure for the team.

“It’s fantastic to be playing against the ANZ Championships teams like Magic, Mystics and Vixens because of the world class professionalism they have to offer as competitors, especially having a number of internationals from Australia and New Zealand.

“It’ll be good exposure for our girls especially to get a sense of the level of netball being played in a professional setting like the ANZ Championship which is something we lack here at home.

“Being in Fiji, it’s hard to remember the level of physicality of overseas netball.

“It’s a really exciting period ahead for the Pearls and we’re all looking forward to meeting these teams.”

Meanwhile, in a statement on the ANZ Championships website, Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty Zone chief executive Tim Hamilton says the matches are a great way to prepare for the Magic’s first ANZ Championship game against the Adelaide Thunderbirds on February 28.

“To be able to host a national netball team like Fiji is a privilege for us and we are thrilled to be able to take these matches to the wider Waikato region,” Hamilton said.
