While some children are enjoying their school holidays others opt not to relax but help their families.

Year Four student, Antandrita Kumar, of Korotari Arya Primary School outside Labasa, enjoys selling vegetables at the Labasa Market on Fridays and Saturdays.

“I like seeing different kinds of people who come to the market and at the same time I enjoy earning money,” Antandrita said.

“I also like selling because I get to help my parents who are both farmers,” she said.

The nine- year old lass of Korotari settlement, proudly said she helped her parents plant eggplants, cucumbers and tomatoes during the school holidays.

“I also help my parents in their farming now because when I grow up I want to become a doctor,” Antandrita said.

At the market with her on Friday was her grandmother, Lila Wati who enjoys every moment with Antandrita.

“I enjoy her company and her enthusiasm to join me and I am proud of her because other children would rather play at home than to be at the market,” Mrs Wati said.

“I will surely miss her when she attends Year Five next year because no one will be with me at the market,” Mrs Wati said.
