After a lapse of 10 years, pet lovers had a chance to show off their pets at a show at Albert Park in Suva yesterday.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) pet show was named The Janette Gatty SPCA Blessing and Fun Pet Show.

The show, which attracted more than 300 people, had a range of competitions for dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and other animals.

The purpose of the pet show was to promote responsible pet ownership that incorporated both animal welfare and pet awareness in a fun, friendly, family oriented environment.

Stall owner Manju Karan said they wanted to focus on animal welfare awareness.

“The Karan family is very passionate about animal welfare and we have a lot of love for animals. What we do for the animals comes from the heart and we care about their welfare. We’ve been doing it for more than 35 years now,” Ms Karan said.

Pet owner, Christina Kumar said it was a fun day for her and her pet dog, Princess.

“We want pet owners to be responsible and for them to take good care of their pets,” she said.
