Sheehan Gani of Bocalevu Primary School in Labasa achieved his goal when he was named male student of the year during the school’s prizegiving last week.

The 13-year-old student was a vigorous participant of the school’s many activities – academically and in sports.

“This was my goal when I started this year, the competition was tough but I had to put myself hard to get there,” the young teenager said.

“My hard work and late nights have been paid off today but I am expecting more when I join secondary education at Labasa College next year.”

He paid credit to his parents and grandmother for his academic success so far.

Headteacher Mohammad Gani said as parents, it was our duty to look after our children and the achievements of our children depended on the students.

“We need to see that our children focus more on their studies to achieve their goal,” Mr Gani said.

Headgirl Dipashna Ram was female student of the year. Meanwhile, 14 students graduated in the Early childhood education programme.
