Shaneel Nandan, Director Assurance and Advisory Services, Ernst & Young, has now taken over as President of the CPA Fiji Branch for a two-year term.

He takes over from Ravendran Achari of ANZ Fiji.

His appointment followed the conclusion of the CPA Fiji Branch annual general meeting held at the Holiday Inn Suva the past week.

Mr Nandan believes the CPA Fiji branch has already set the platform by organising successful congresses year in year out.

“It’s a brand on its own now and I am ready to take it to the next level,” he said.

Accomplishments

Meanwhile, Mr Achari has called on members to give the same level of support given to him to the incoming president.

“This is so that we are collectively focussed on delivering on the objectives of CPA,” he said.

Mr Achari revealed the total CPA Fiji Branch membership as at December 31, 2013 was 387.

He said: “The cumulative average growth of our membership base has been 14 per cent over the past few years.”

Mr Archari said the council’s objective has been to lift the profile of the whole accountancy profession in Fiji.

“In 2014, CPA granted accreditation to the Fiji National University (FNU) for their Accounting courses to be recognised by CPA,” he said.

“This is a great achievement for the FNU and allows students direct access to complete CPA after completing their degree through the FNU.”

Mr Achari said the CPA Fiji Branch will work more closely with both CPA Australia and CPA New Zealand with the New Zealand Country Manager having direct oversight on Fiji.
