Government backbenchers and Opposition members asked Cabinet Ministers questions over a wide range of issues yesterday. Some of the issues included:

Air Services with Solomon Islands:

Responding to a question from Opposition MP Semesa Karavaki, Attorney-General and Minister for Civil Aviation Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum replied comprehensively.

He suggested someone in the Solomon Airlines was trying to sabotage this issue.

The Fijian Government is still waiting for their Solomon Islands counterparts to break the deadlock and return to the negotiating table.

Travel between Fiji and the Solomons by Fiji Airways and Solomon Airlines was suspended after Solomon Islands blocked a planned direct Fiji Airways flight Nadi-Honiara-Nadi.

Fiji said the Solomon Islands move breached an agreement on services.

Black Rock, Nadi:

Minister for Defence Timoci Natuva clarifi ed that the development of the training camp at

Black Rock, Votualevu, Nadi, was to upgrade the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) peacekeeping operations.

He said this was crucial to help the RFMF meet international demands and relocate the 4th Fiji Infantry Regiment (4FIR) close to Nadi International Airport.

He also said negotiations to redeploy 200 Fijians troops from Syria to Lebanon were ongoing.

Independent legal adviee:

The Attorney-General, Minister for Finance, Public Service and Public Enterprise said independent legal advice for his ministries was provided by the Solicitor-General.

In response to the Leader of the Opposition Ro Teimumu Kepa, he said he was not the only Attorney-General in Fiji’s history since Independence to hold several portfolios.

He mentioned former Attorney-Generals Q.B Bale, and Kelemedi Bulewa among others who held several portfolios.
