About 70 regional airline stakeholders will gather for the 61st General Session of the Association of the South Pacific Airlines in Nadi today.

Association secretary-general George Faktaufon said the two-day forum would see 14 regional airlines, including Fiji Airways and Fiji Link. It will  be held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa on Denarau Island.

“This forum is very important to the airlines, as this is the only forum where you have everyone involved in aviation together under one roof,” Mr Faktaufon said.

“This forum allows the airlines to meet each other and carry out bilateral and multilateral discussions amongst themselves.”

Mr Faktaufon said industry partners have found it very convenient to meet the airlines regularly as it was not only time consuming but expensive to traverse the region.

These partners are aircraft manufacturers, leasing companies, insurance companies, airports, air navigation service providers, global distribution systems, aircraft financiers

This year’s theme is ‘Enhance Profitability by reducing Waste’.

Its objective, he said, was to promote co-operation amongst the member airlines in the development of commercial aviation to, from and within the region.

“ASPA also facilitates workshops and seminars for the members to address issues of common interest,” he added.

“It also provides a regional training programme as well as provides in-house training/coaching for the airlines.

“ASPA represents the member’s collective interests to governments and other regional and international bodies when necessary.”

Speakers include Fiji Airways managing director/ chief executive Stefan Pichler.

He will be providing some guidance, based on their areas of expertise as on, how the airlines could improve their processes in order to do things right first time.

The meeting ends tomorrow.
