Reverend Father Simione Sela was laid to rest at Vatuwaqa cemetery.

Hundreds of Catholics attended his resurrection mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. It was led by the leader of the Catholic Church in Fiji, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong.

Rev Father Sela had his first communion on November 22, 1970 and his confirmation on September 20, 1975.

He was ordained a priest at Solevu, Bua by the late Archbishop Petero Mataca.

His secretary, Waisake Tavoi, said Fr Sela was a committed priest.

“He has been battling with a sickness for some time now but he was strong until the end. Rev Fr Sela was a kind, humble and hardworking priest,” Mr Tavoi said.

“Rev Father Sela was assigned to St Joseph the Worker Parish, Tamavua and has been there for the last nine months. He passed away on Thursday last week at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital,” he said.
