Rotuma Next Stop For Island Importers

A team of potential importers from Tuvalu is in the country and will be leaving for Rotuma this weekend to look at vegetables and root crops to import.

Tuvala currently imports dalo from Rotuma and there are plans to increase this with the assistance of private investors.

Tuvalu Prime Minister, Enele Sopoaga, yesterday said they were seriously looking at increasing their dalo imports from Rotuma.

Mr Sopoaga said shipping was one of major issues which needed to be looked into as Tuvalu is looking into increasing their dalo imports.

The team from the Tuvalu private sector will also look at other crops which they can buy from the island. He said during droughts in Tuvalu there is a scarcity of dalo and vegetables.

To offset this they are looking at Fiji.
