The virgin coconut oil (VCO) factory on Rabi Island needs further extension as it cannot accommodate all the work needed – processors, coconut packaging, labelling and stock.

The factory’s operations manager, Terikano Takesau, said they also have a new soap plant but it has not been used as there was very little space at the factory.

“We are requesting the Commissioner Northern’s office to look into this as they promised us that they will extend this and hopefully it will be done.”

Mrs Takesau said the factory’s management was doing its best to sustain markets at the moment.

“Our major issue is delivery, transportation and our geographic location makes our marketing complicated.

“Another major issue is that containers and bottles are not produced in Fiji as they are ordered from China.

“We also ordered our 125 millilitres bottles from Australia which costs us so much to pay for the tax.”

In response, the Acting Commissioner –Northern, Alipate Bolalevu, said he had seen the factory and they would work on it.

“We will have to see the scope and plan of the factory and work on it,” Mr Bolalevu said.
