The Devil Is In The Details Says Radrodro

The devil is in the details, according to Member of Parliament, Aseri Radrodro in his response to the 2015 National Budget.

The qualified accountant is also the Opposition’s Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.

He questioned the incremental increases in the national infrastructure budget over the past three years.

“Can the Honourable Minister inform this august house since FRA started its operations, how many new roads has it planned and constructed and how much was the costs involved? It would be helpful if we can be informed what the average cost of a kilometre of road, they construct, “ he asked in Parliament yesterday.

Mr Radrodro also questioned the amount of money allocated to one Cabinet Minister, Pio Tikoduadua.

“Collectively, the total budgetted expenditure for the sector in 2015 will be a massive $1.078 billion. This represents 32 per cent of the total Government Budget. The figures, Madame Speaker are astounding. $1.087 billion to be allocated under only one Minister.” He said with what he called huge amounts allocated to just one ministry checks and balances needed to be stringent.

“Minimal assistance comes from donors in the form of grants. Therefore, the accountability of this budget has to be scrutinised and monitored consistently. Those in positions of authority who will have the responsibility of oversight over these budgets will have to be meticulous in their role.”
