Vodafone Fiji M-PAiSA and MasterCard have created a joint venture, Homesend, which opens up an affordable and convenient international money transfer service into Fiji.

Those wishing to send money from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, America and United Kingdom to family members in Fiji will be able to use this new service at a nominal cost.

Vodafone Fiji head of mCommerce, Shailendra Prasad, said: “We have been working with multiple agencies and partners for some time to launch this service for our people in Fiji.

“The service has been approved by the Reserve Bank of Fiji having been satisfied with all the technical and security compliance requirements for a cross border transaction.

“We are very fortunate to have very trusted brands behind the launch of this new service.”

This service is great news for families in Fiji receiving money from overseas on a regular basis.

Former Fiji residents, soldiers serving abroad and professional athletes such as rugby players would be able to use this convenient mode of international money transfer service to send money to their loved ones with ease.

Mr Prasad said: “This new service much more affordable, highly secure and most efficient mode of receiving international money transfer into Fiji compared to other mediums.

“The introduction of this new service is a natural progression in the suite of value added services that M-PAiSA is able to provide to the Fijian customers.

“We are confident that this new service will be well received by the senders and receivers alike.  We have a network of reputable sending partners and an equally good network of local agents who will be able to service the clients at both ends.”

How it works

The great thing about this service is that money sent from overseas will arrive in Fijian dollar amounts directly into the receivers M-PAiSA mobile wallet within seconds of it being processed at the senders end.

An SMS will also be simultaneously delivered to the receivers’ mobile informing them that money has been sent to their M-PAiSA account.

The recipient could then walk across to any M-PAiSA agent conveniently located throughout the country to withdraw their money without the need to visit agents or money transfer outlets in towns.

Sereana Dinati, who receives money regularly from her son in Australia, said: “I would like to learn more about this new service.

“It’s great to know that I can receive money from my son in Australia directly in my phone sitting at home.

“I have to run around a lot at the moment to get my money when my son sends it over.

“I am already using M-PAiSA to pay my bills. I hope it will be as easy to receive money from overseas also.”

About Homesend

HomeSend is an open B2B hub service that enables transfers between end users of different payment service providers.

The HomeSend service leverages innovations in mobile payments and the digitalisation of money transfers.

The HomeSend service currently enables remittances and disbursement by solving service interoperability and integrating mobile money systems of different operators.

By connecting innovative service providers on both the send and receive sides, HomeSend enables the best possible user experience, while supporting multiple payment options.

Similar international money transfer services launched by Homesend in other markets have quickly gone onto become the most popular and widely used international money transfer services in those countries.

It is expected to be the same here once people realise the benefits of this channel.
