A watermelon farmer of Nabilo in Korovou, Tailevu is among people adversely affected by flash floods that hit Tailevu North areas yesterday.

Rajnesh Chand recorded a huge loss after his watermelon farm went under water when flood waters rose yesterday.

“My sweat has been a waste now that I’ve lost $30,000 worth of watermelons in this flood,” Mr Chand said.

“This is the first time this has happened ever since I started planting water melons a few years ago.”

Mr Chand plants and sells his watermelons to market vendors as his main source of income.

He said he did not mind losing his farm but was grateful nothing happened to his home.

Mr Chand was also among those who accompanied the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Pio Tikoduadua, during his tour of flood -affected areas in Nabilo yesterday.
