Telecom Fijiana rep Asinate Savu is among the top three top scorers following the Women’s Sevens Series in Dubai.

According to the World Rugby Women’s Series point standings, Savu is on third spot with 40 points behind Canada’s Ghislaine Landry and Marina Petrova of Russia who have 45 points.

Savu played well during the plate final against England. Fiji lost 12 – 19.

Fiji had the upper hand in the opening minutes as Savu powered through for the first try. The try came in the 4th minute with Savu at the end of 15 completed pass by the Fijians. She converted her own try.

Despite Fiji’s dominance in possession and territory, it was England which stole the score right on the cusp of half-time as Natasha Hunt bundled through for her fifth score of the tournament. The English continue their dominance as Danielle Waterman extended their lead with her second try.

Savu then replied with her brilliant individual play propelling extra power and strength from a standing start to score on the corner for her double and her sixth score in Dubai. She failed the conversion.

The two sides were locked 12-12 at fulltime, but England began pinning the Fijiana deep inside their own 22 metre line. Fiji was exhausted resorting to kicking to clear their lines.

The draw remained tied five minutes of extra time, but England managed to break through with a try from Hunt after collecting a loose ball to score under the crossbar for the extra seven points.

“It was so important we got as far as we could so hats off to the girls for coming away with the win,” Hunt said. Fiji 12- 19 England
