Suva Grammar School student Jay Tee Leca scooped the Inaugural Fiji Airways-sponsored Junior Golf Open Championship 2014 at the Denarau Golf and Racquet yesterday.

Leca, with his current performance, aims to turn professional at the age of 18.

The Matuku, Lau native came out victorious after winning the overall gross, carding 80, but had to play off with Nadi’s Divesh Kumar.

“I was surprised in a good way as this was my first time in this tournament. This win is an achievement for me,” the 15 year old said.

“I thank Fiji Airways for supporting us young golfers to live the dream in this sport.

There were a lot of challenges and pressures at certain holes but it was a great day on the greens.

Leca shot 43 in the back nine and 37 in the front nine with three birdies on the 2 nd, 5 th and 9 th holes respectively. Ba’s Shahil Singh won the overall net prize.

Fiji Airways business development executive Felicia Verma thanked Oceania Golf School for organising the event.

“Fiji Airways is proud to be associated with the sport of golf at this age and we thank the participants for developing their skills in this sport,” said Verma.
