Senior citizens at the Senior Citizens Home in Samabaula, Suva, beamed were all smiles as they were treated to lunch by a religious group yesterday.

A group from the Shri Sat Sang Ramayan Mandali in Kinoya hosted the senior citizens to lunch comprising of Indian dishes.

Group secretary Shiu Raman said they planned to hold another lunch treat for the residents before year ended.

“There are 20 members in our group. We just contributed money and we cooked these different dishes to bring them here,” Mr Raman said.

“We want to show that we care for these people and those in our communities. It is good to do this type of things, it is a good deed.”

Mr Raman said the treat was also a way for the group to spread Christmas cheers to the residents.

Vereimi Tuibau, who is in charge of the kitchen, said the residents had always enjoyed getting visitors to provide their lunch.

“They always willingly come and offer to do this and when the residents see food coming from outside, it feels like home to them and they are always happy,” Mr Tuibau said.

The residents had chicken curry, rice, puri, halwa (Indian sweet) and refreshments.
