World Rugby Well Offside On Sevens On TV

World Rugby cannot justify any commercial argument over the sharing of TV rights in Fiji.

It is not losing out through the rights being shared in our small Fijian market,

But the neocolonial types in Europe who keep control of World Rugby have a lot to gain if they do allow the sharing of rights.

They can get more money if Fiji bids as a nation rather than as individual TV stations.

More Fijians will get to see top rugby and this will promote rugby and rugby development. Isn’t this the objective of World Rugby?

This is not about protecting some in a TV station that for too long had a monopoly and a cosy relationship with previous governments. This is not some cheap political stunt to be exploited by Ro Teimumu Kepa and those in Opposition desperate for anything to make noise over.

This is about rugby and Fiji. It is about making sure all Fijians – including those in rural areas – can see national events like the World Sevens Series and World Cup.

It is obvious from the correspondence that some people in Fiji are feeding the wrong information to World Rugby. This needs to be investigated. Those involved need to be exposed, shown for what they are and taken to task.

The chairman and CEO of Fijian Holdings, as major shareholders, should start looking within Fiji TV for a start.

Good on the Government for sticking up for rugby fans all over Fiji. Let’s support our Government on this – even if you didn’t vote for them in the elections.
