A cattle farm near Lodoni Village in Tailevu North, has recorded close to $300,000 in losses after the recent floods last Saturday.

Narocake Cattle Farm manager Osea Naitaka was speechless after he discovered the loss the farm had suffered during the flood.

Mr Naitaka said because the flood came early Saturday morning, he could not protect the cattle on his farm.

“This is the sixth year I have been managing the farm and this is the first time this has happened with 30 cows being washed away by the floodwaters,” Mr Naitaka said.

“There are close to 100 cows here and with the 30 recorded missing or dead we have to look for other means to start all over again; the floods has also damaged the milking machine.”

The lost stock consisted of three to four-year- old cows.

“The flood had hit early in the morning at around 3am so I could not do anything to save the cows from the flood.”

The farm which is owned by the Narocake clan of Sawakasa Village utilises its money for students’ scholarships and other matters needed by the clan members.
