Lautoka Rugby Union proved that they still belong to the top after winning the TFL promotion-relegation match 22-10 against a spirited Naitasiri North Bulls side last Saturday. Lautoka came out fighting to keep their spot for next year’s major union competition.

Hours before the match Lautoka made a quick change to their lineup due to technicalities. However this did not deter the side from putting on a brilliant performance with a team that was formed hours before the match got underway.

Naitasiri North tested the Sugar City side with the physicality that they brought to the game. The Highlanders made some wrong options and critical errors which Lautoka took advantage of and convert into points.

Kelemedi Bola at second five stood out for the Maroons, while the experience of U20 Fiji rep Mikeli Sivo who played flanker was also inspirational.

Lautoka’s fullback Vucago Bainitabua displayed some brilliant individual play, scoring two tries and conversion to help his side secure the win.

Naitasiri North Bulls came fighting back at the end but it was too little to help the side secure the win they were after.

Lautoka in the end proved to themselves that they still deserve to be in the major union and was a wakeup call for the side in preparation for next season’s competition.

The final score again 22 points to 10 with Lautoka coming out as victors of the 2014 TFL Promotion Relegation match.
